Born in Germany in 1981 I started my web design career after Highschool working for an internet company based in my hometown of Saarbrücken in the South-West of Germany.
My passion for travelling lead me to Asia and Australia in 2002, where I ended up studying Tourism Management and a short course in Prepress Design while still freelancing as a web designer.
After spending several years in Australia, I decided to leave Germany permanently in 2008 and migrated to my favorite city: Melbourne.
My experience with clients from all industries and of all sizes enabled me to work with many well known German startup companies. In 2007 I had a chance to work at the Google headquarters in Silicon Valley and meet Google CEO Sergey Brin.
I consider myself an entrepreneur too, operating several websites myself (e.g. ausmag.de and globalzoo.de).
Travelling is also part of my life. So when I'm not sitting in front of my screen, I enjoy planning my next trip which is hopefully never too far away... temporally I mean. ;-)
I focus on developing websites that are easy for humans to use and for search engines to index, without compromising functionality and aesthetic quality. The importance of web standards and usability guides me in the design and development process of a website and ensures high quality results for my clients. Ok, enough blah blah, here how I can help:
You have a great idea for a website but don't know how to put it into practice? Or you already have all contents for your site and simply don't know the best way to structure it? I can help with conceptualising and structuring your project. Consulting you what techniques are best for your project and how to approach them is one of my strenghts.
I love it when a website looks pretty. That's why I love the design part of my work. But there is much more to the pretty face than most people think: a good design makes your website user-friendly and therefore successful. I make use of professional artwork, clear and effective website layout and navigation, keeping search engine friendliness and usability standards in mind.
Once the designing stage has finished, I produce the website using current web design standards (CSS/XHTML) to ensure that the website looks consistent in all browsers and on all platforms, loads quickly and can be indexed smoothly by all major search engines. Although I'm not a programmer myself, I do have basic skills in PHP programming and contacts to great colleagues who I collaborate with to implement smart content management systems for easy management of your website.
A pretty website that can't be found is as helpful as no website at all. SEO is a major aspect of a successful website. I know all the tricks that get you the better ranking.
More and more competitors of yours open their websites - nearly daily. You need smart and creative marketing solutions and promotion techniques to stay on top of them. Whether printed marketing campaigns, search engine advertising or viral marketing tricks, ask me for advice.
I'm also a qualified prepress trades person. Let me design and produce your next business card, letter head, brochures, flyers and much more.
I'm no new kid on the block! For more than 10 years I've been working with the web. The dot.com-boom, the bursting of the bubble, the shiny web 2.0 era - my experience will help you do it right the first time. Previous clients range from large enterprises to small startups and are spread throughout all industries.
Being an entrepreneur myself, I own and run several websites and online communities which gives me a chance to actualise the techniques that I recommend to my clients.
I spend lots of too much time every week just following all the news around web 2.0, e-business, technology, web design and development and all that other nerdy stuff. You may rest assured that if there is the next big new thing out there, I've heard of it. ;-)
Well, I'm German, so expect me to be as efficient as humanly possible. Just joking! I'm efficiently German as much as I'm easy going Australian. Ok, I do like things to go according to plan though. :-)
One of my biggest private projects so far: globalzoo has become one of Germany's most popular travel communities. Based on my idea, my concept and my design, my colleague Daniel and I developed globalzoo in Aug 2007.

This project took me to the Google Headquarters at Silicon Valley, California. Other design jobs followed.
